HarperCollins Christian Publishing announced Monday it has purchased DaySpring—a creator of Christian books, journals, and devotionals, and more—from Hallmark, which retains the DaySpring Cards line.
The HCCP deal includes more than 350 backlist titles for gift books, journals, devotionals, coloring and puzzle books, Prayers to Share pass-along notes, Bibles, and children’s books. These will publish under the DaySpring name and, according to the announcement, three DaySpring publising staffers will move to HCCP with the brand: Katie Matzenbacher, senior acquisitions editor; Daniela Howard, editor; and Juanita Groomer, senior production manager.
“This strategic acquisition allows us to develop new products and further expand our reach in the faith-based market,” said Mark Schoenwald, president and CEO of HCCP, noting it complements their gift portfolio in particular. Also in the announcement, Laura Minchew, SVP and group publisher of children’s books and gift books, welcomed "DaySpring’s talented authors and excellent team members into our publishing family.”
“This marks an important and promising step for DaySpring Publishing,” said Jeff Nichols, VP and general manager of DaySpring, noting that HCCP's "expertise and reach will help carry the DaySpring brand forward."
