The 19th annual Children’s Book Art Silent Auction, which benefits the American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression’s fight against censorship of books for young readers, will take place at BookExpo America on Wednesday, May 29 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. But this year for the first time ABFFE and the ABC Children’s Group at the American Booksellers Association, which cosponsor the auction, are also holding an online auction, which is open to the public and will run for a week in the run-up to BEA, from May 18 at 9 a.m. to May 24 at 9 p.m. Leading children’s book illustrators are contributing to the online auction as well. Art will be available from Sophie Blackall, Frank Dormer, Nathan Hale, Tad Hills, Jeremy Holmes, Daniel Kirk, Helen Lester, Betsy Lewin, Ted Lewin, Jeff Mack, Bob Shea, Meilo So, and Rosemary Wells, among others, and can be viewed here. Both auctions help support ABFEE, cofounder of the Kids’ Right to Read Project and primary sponsor of Banned Books Week.
