Hachette UK is opening a sales office in China that will cover Southeast Asia. The new Hong Kong office, which will cover the entire region (save Singapore, Malaysia and China), will be overseen by new hire Paul Kenny. Kenny was regional sales and marketing manager for Pan Macmillan Asia and, at Hachette, will have the newly created role of South East Asia sales and marketing manager.

Kenny started at Pan Macmillan in 1994 and worked at the company until 2008, when he joined Guinness World Records in London. In 2009 he returned to Pan Macmillan, on their international team, and moved to Hong Kong.

Richard Kitson, who is group commercial director of Hachette UK, said the new Hong Kong office, which follows the establishment of an outpost in the Middle East, is part of a strategy at the the company to develop and foster global sales on a local level. He also noted that "with the market for English books in Asia flourishing, it is the perfect time to establish our own operation in the area."
