Sarah MacLachlan is retiring as president and publisher of Toronto's House of Anansi Press and publisher of Groundwood Books, positions she has held for 16 years.

The role of president for the press will be filled by current Groundwood Books publisher Semareh Al-Hillal, while Bruce Walsh, most recently publisher of the University of Regina Press, will take over as publisher of House of Anansi. Karen Li, formerly editorial director of Owlkids Books, will take over as publisher of Groundwood. The changes take place in June.

"Over the years I have had the privilege of working with the most talented creators and the best people in the business," MacLachlan in a statement. "I have been truly blessed in my career, and I have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of this exceptional publishing house."
