In many contemporary romances, the male lead’s heart doesn’t just belong to his love interest. He may also be loyal to his band of brothers, whether they are his literal siblings or figurative ones—think fellow Navy SEALs, sports teammates, bike-club crewmates, you name it.

“Being able to peek behind the curtain and see what men are like when they’re just with men is a curiosity among women,” Susan Swinwood, executive editor at Harlequin, says. “Regardless of the arena, [the band-of-brothers conceit] is a chance for men to be awesome together.”
