Here it is, our big fall books preview.

What you’ll find is a mix of books: major ones, huge ones, small but mighty ones, some destined to be sleeper hits, others that will make news, and a few dark horses we think have great potential.

We’ve divided them up, as usual, into 15 categories, each with a top-10 list and a longlist of 40–50 additional titles that are worth keeping an eye on. Our goal here is to offer booksellers and librarians a helping hand in finding books to order and promote in the coming months, and also to provide anyone who loves books with a roadmap to the upcoming season.

To be eligible, books have to have U.S. distribution and publish between Aug. 1, 2017, and Jan. 31, 2018. This season, we received more than 5,000 adult titles for consideration, and if you want to go deeper than our category lists, head on over to publishersweekly.com/announcements, where you can browse the full database by publisher, imprint, category, publication date, and format.

And mark your calendars for July 17, when we publish our Children’s Fall Announcements issue. In the meantime, happy reading.
