Nan Talese Acquires New Ian McEwan Novel

Nan A. Talese/Doubleday and Anchor Books have acquired U.S. rights from Georges Borchardt at Georges Borchardt Literary Agency to Ian McEwan’s new novel, Machines Like Me. The novel, the publisher said, "occurs in an alternative 1980s London. Britain has lost the Falklands war, Margaret Thatcher battles Tony Benn for power and Alan Turing achieves a breakthrough in artificial intelligence. In a world not quite like this one, two lovers will be tested beyond their understanding." The novel will be published simultaneously with Knopf Canada and alongside Jonathan Cape in the U.K., who will publish on April 18, 2019, with an announced first printing of 150,000 copies. The book will be published in hardcover and as an e-book, and it will be published in trade paper by Anchor the following year.
