Tommy Orange Wins Center for Fiction First Novel Prize

The Center for Fiction has awarded Tommy Orange the 2018 Center for Fiction First Novel Prize for his novel, There There (Alfred A. Knopf). The annual prize includes a $10,000 cash award, and was presented at the Center for Fiction’s Annual Benefit and Awards Dinner in New York City on December 11. The presentation was made by Julie Lekstrom Himes, winner of The Center’s First Novel Prize in 2017 for her novel, Mikhail and Margarita (Europa Editions). Nobel laureate Toni Morrison was also honored during the evening for a Lifetime of Excellence in Fiction, with remarks on Morrison’s life and work given by Oprah Winfrey.
