B&N Reports Relatively Strong Sales

Despite reducing hours across all stores and temporarily closing some outlets at the request of local officials, Barnes & Noble said this morning sales have been relatively strong both in its physical outlets and online. The strongest categories, a spokesperson said, are home study guides, children’s books in general, and adult fiction.

B&N is asking customers to practice social distancing and to encourage the practice it has removed seating and other furniture and canceled store events through April. The store is also preparing to offer curbside pickup for books.

Earlier this week, B&N began enhanced cleaning in all its stores and told employees who are not feeling well, or need to care for family members, to stay home.

“We plan to stay open as is possible to continue to provide books to the many people whose daily routines have been disrupted,” the statement from the spokesperson said.
