The Other NBA: Charity Basketball Game for Reading

The National Book Foundation, organizer of the National Book Awards, is sponsoring The Other NBA, a charity basketball game to be held at St. Francis College in Brooklyn, on June 20, featuring teams of writers versus publishers. The game will raise funds to support BookUp, the NBF’s reading program for underserved middle school student.

The Other NBA will feature such heretofore unknown basketball talent as LitHub’s Jonny Diamond, Riverhead Book’s Katie Freeman, Word Bookstore Basketball League commissioner Jon Schulman, and the Darien Library’s Stephanie Anderson. Other publishing figures will be on hand. Special guests include PEN American Center Paul W. Morris, who will referee, and Men’s Journal’s Jason Diamond and Oyster’s Kevin Nguyen, who will announce the game.

Tickets are $50 and $25. The game will be played Saturday, June 20 at 3 p.m. at St. Francis College, 180 Remsen St, Brooklyn, NY 11201 near Borough Hall. Click here for more information and to buy tickets.
