Atlanta Bookseller Wins Tony Hillerman Prize

Minotaur Books announced that Samantha Jayne Allen’s Pay Dirt Road won the 2019 Tony Hillerman Prize, a competition for the best debut mystery novel set in the Southwest. Allen is currently a bookseller at A Cappella Books in Atlanta. The novel will be published in early 2022.

Previous winners include Carol Potenza’s Hearts of the Missing, John Fortunato’s Dark Reservations, CB McKenzie’s Bad Country (nominated for the Edgar Award for best first mystery novel), Andrew Hunt’s City of Saints; Tricia Fields’ The Territory; Roy Chaney’s The Ragged End of Nowhere; and Christine Barber’s The Replacement Child.
