October Indie Playlist Themes Announced

The themes for this October's Indie Playlist promotion, a program launched last year by a group of small presses (and which now includes the participation of regional bookstore associations) under the banner the Independent Publishers Caucus, has been announced. The promotion offers discounts and cash prizes to booksellers who create thematic displays of books incorporating a curated list of titles provided by the group.

The themes for this month's playlists are "Acts of Courage," which includes books by Roxane Gay, Annie Ernaux, Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor, Okey Nbide, Shokoofeh Azar, and others, and "The Fight to Save the Environment." The titles are supported with terms from Penguin Random House Publisher Services and Ingram Publisher Services, which have partnered with the IPC to provide incentive discounts to indie bookstores for their participation.

The display contest is open to all bookstores nationally, and open to all independent bookstores from September 15 through October 31. A $500 prize will be awarded to a bookstore that submits the best thematic display centered around the books offered in the promotion; that purse will be split between the bookseller who creates the display and the store.
