Dillon Up at PRH

Sanyu Dillon has been promoted to chief marketing officer, from executive v-p and director of marketing strategy and consumer engagement, at Penguin Random House. She will continue to report to PRH US CEO Madeline McIntosh and serve on the PRH board. Going forward, McIntosh wrote in a letter to staff, Dillon will continue to have direct oversight for all "company-wide consumer-facing marketing activities," including, but not limited to, efforts to develop and execute consumer campaigns that help drive sales through retailers and directly; growing consumer engagement via consumer-facing sites, social accounts, and subscriber programs; consumer insights; and creative, video, and event-production support.

In addition, McIntosh wrote, Dillon will be charged with working to help the company "accelerate the transformation of how we invest our time and funds to sell books." She added: "Part of what makes us successful as a large company is our decentralized structure.... At the same time, our experience this year has put in relief that there are contexts and opportunities where we need to make use of centralized scale: to get the biggest bang for our buck; to ensure we’re rapidly learning; and to be able to pivot the whole company quickly when major change happens. We will absolutely continue to be structured in a way that supports independent,  publishing-driven marketing activity, and Sanyu will be working with all teams to provide the support and resources that will help them implement their own evolution."
