PEN Launches Campaign Against Disinformation
PEN America has launched What to Expect When You’re Electing, a program to combat the spread of disinformation in the run up to the November 3 elections. The project is beginning with a the release of a YouTube video featuring authors and celebrities urging people to vigilant about their consumption of social media. The people featured in the video include Brit Bennett, Jennifer Egan, John Lithgow, Kali Fajardo Anstine, Wajahat Ali, Ann Patchett, Anita Hill, Neil Gaiman, Alan Cumming, and Tayari Jones.
In addition, PEN is promising a series of conversations in partnership with Washington Post Live about disinformation; an interactive quiz launching October 1) to guide users through the pitfalls of disinformation; multilingual tip sheets and resources to share with friends and family to stop the spread of disinformation; and more.
