Aspen Words Announces Literary Prize Shortlist

Aspen Words, a program of the Aspen Institute, announced this morning the finalists for the $35,000 Aspen Words Literary Prize for fiction that illuminates contemporary social issues. The 2021 shortlist includes three novels and two short story collections: Against the Loveless World by Susan Abulhawa; Leave the World Behind by Rumaan Alam; The Night Watchman by Louise Erdrich; The Office of Historical Corrections: A Novella and Stories by Danielle Evans; and If I Had Two Wings: Stories by the late Randall Kenan. The shortlist for this year's prize was selected from a longlist of 15 titles by a jury of five acclaimed authors from diverse backgrounds: Emily Bernard, Sarah Ladipo Manyika, Viet Thanh Nguyen, Daniel Shaw and Luis Alberto Urrea. The winner will be announced at a virtual awards ceremony on April 21
