DUP Workers Union Files for NLRB Election

In March, employees at Duke University Press announced they had formed Duke University Press Workers Union, a new unit of the NewsGuild, TNG-CWA Local 3203. Today, the union filed for an election with the National Labor Relations Board. Union organizers said they had a majority of the 80 non-management employees of the 120 total employees at the press agreeing to participate in a union.

The workers are asking Duke University Press and Duke University to voluntarily recognize the union. If they do not, the NLRB will schedule and carry out a union election for workers at Duke University Press.

“It has been so incredibly energizing to talk with our colleagues about their experiences and concerns,” said Dan Ruccia, Marketing Designer at DUP. “Filing for an NLRB election is an important next step in this process of addressing those concerns. We’re all so excited to continue working together to make Duke University Press the best publisher it can be.”
