Julian Barnes Awarded 2021 Jerusalem Prize

British author Julian Barnes was awarded the 2021 Jerusalem Prize as part of the opening of this year's Jerusalem International Book Forum. The prize honors authors whose work best expresses and promotes the idea of “freedom of the individual in society.” It comes with $10,000.

In awarding the prize, the jury noted, "“… Barnes’ greatness is to be found in his ability to think and express himself not only in words but in notes and keys, similes and metaphors, ruminations and silences, and to alchemize those elements into strong, glowing literature.”
