U.K.'s Society of Authors Announces Award Shortlists

The shortlists for five of the U.K.'s  Society of Authors' nine annual awards have been announced. The prize money exceeds £100,000 and ranges from the £1,575 ALCS Tom-Gallon Trust Award for best short story, to £26,200 for the Betty Trask Prize, given to a first novel by a writer under 35. In total, 34 authors have been shortlisted for the awards. The winners of all nine Society of Authors’ Awards will be announced on June 9 in an online ceremony introduced by novelist Joanne Harris.
