Authors Sign 'Letter Against Apartheid'

A Palestinian “Letter Against Apartheid,” written by a collective of six Palestinian artists and initially circulated by 300 Palestinian and 1,300 international artists that, has gathered more than 16,000 signatories, including more than 16,000 artists (a number of whom are major writers) and others in the American book business. The letter, which says of the present situation in Israel, "this is not a conflict: this is apartheid,” calls on " “governments that are enabling this crime against humanity to apply sanctions...and to cut trade, economic, and cultural relations” with Israel. Among the signatories from the literary world include Pulitzer Prize–winning writers Annie Baker, Richard Ford, Tyehimba Jess, Tony Kushner, Hisham Matar, Benjamin Moser, Lynn Nottage, and Viet Thanh Nguyen and such other notable authors as Ta-Nehisi Coates, Angela Davis, Annie Ernaux, Laila Lalami, Ben Lerner, Valeria Luiselli, Colum McCann, Maaza Mengiste, Eileen Myles, Sally Rooney, and Ocean Vuong, among others.
