Carr Named Senior Director of Publisher Relations at Tapas Media
Alex R. Carr, a former group editor at DC Entertainment, has been appointed senior director of publisher relations at Tapas Media, a digital comics platform offering vertical scroll webcomics for mobile devices. Carr will be focused on growing Tapas’ catalog of narrative content off platform. He will join Tapas chief content officer Michele Wells, a former colleague at DC, who joined Tapas in February this year.
Carr was previously group editor at DC from 2019-2021, and was a senior editor at DC Books for Young readers from 2018-2019, helping to launch new initiatives for young readers based on DC’s catalog of classic superheroes. Over his time at DC, Carr worked with such authors as Maggie Stiefvater, Claudia Gray, and Marieke Nijkamp, in addition to leading the Justice League group in DC’s periodical division, and working with such veteran comics writers as Brian Michael Bendis, David Marquez, Ram V, Mike Perkins, and Kelly Sue DeConnick. Before working at DC, Carr worked at Amazon Publishing for more than ten years, including as executive editor of Amazon Publishing UK and editorial director of 47North, Jet City Comics, and Kindle Serials.
Tapas Media CCO Wells said Carr was joining the platform at a “pivotal moment in our company’s growth. He will be developing and overseeing the entire print publishing program, as well as guiding the strategy for the global reach of Tapas content. We’re looking forward to partnering with Alex on a number of new and exciting initiatives in Tapas storytelling both on and off platform.”
