ABA Makes Initial Examinations of Two Recent Issues

In a note published in the American Booksellers Association’s weekly newsletter on Tuesday, CEO Allison Hill stated that the ABA has completed an “initial investigation” into two incidents that, together, have paralyzed the organization for almost a week. Last week, recipients complained that a vehemently anti-trans book was included in the ABA’s July “white box” shipped to 750 booksellers; earlier this month, the cover image of a book by a right-wing extremist was mistakenly featured on the Indies Next bestseller list instead of the cover art of an anthology by a group of bestselling Black YA authors. “We’re spending three weeks talking with members, evaluating our systems, and developing a response plan,” Hill wrote, promising "more details soon."
