Algonquin Partners with Symphony Space on Story Collection

Algonquin Books has partnered with Symphony Space, the New York-based multi-disciplinary performing arts center, to publish Small Odysseys: Selected Shorts Presents 35 New Stories. The collection will celebrate the 35th anniversary of Selected Shorts, the literary performance series hosted live at New York City's Symphony Space and distributed as a popular public radio show and podcast.

Small Odysseys features 35 never-before-published stories by contributing writers including Michael Cunningham, Edwidge Danticat, Dave Eggers, Mira Jacob, Carmen Maria Machado, Namwali Serpell, and Weike Wang. It is edited by author Hannah Tinti and includes a forward by Neil Gaiman, and will be published March 15, 2022.

As a literature-in-performance series, Selected Shorts is best known for engaging celebrated actors to bring to life stories by established and emerging writers. "Selected Shorts is the groundbreaking program that, for more than 35 years, has taken literature from the page to the stage," said Kathy Landau, executive director of Symphony Space. "We’re thrilled now to be moving from the stage to the page, having commissioned a wide range of essential voices to write new short stories."
