PEN America Rejects Calls to Cancel Coney Barrett Book

PEN America has issued a statement rejecting the recent call by publishing professionals for PRH to cancel its forthcoming book by Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett.

In the statement, PEN America expresses concern over the Supreme Court's "increasingly ideological orientation" but asserts that "if editors have concluded that a book by Coney Barrett... is of value to audiences, that decision should not be overturned at the behest of protesters who reject Coney Barrett’s views." It concludes that the "role of major publishers" is to "make available a wide array of ideas and perspectives," and the publication of a book "should not be constructed as an endorsement of the views of the author or subject."
