James Patterson to Complete Unfinished Michael Crichton Novel

Little, Brown has acquired world and translation rights, except for the U.K., to a novel bestselling author Michael Crichton was working on at the time of his death in 2008. LB’s current bestselling author, James Patterson, will finish the untitled work about, LB said, a ”mega-eruption of Hawaii’s Mauna Loa volcano that can destroy not just the island but the entire world.”

Little, Brown will publish the book in all formats in 2024. “This is one of the most spectacular meetings of minds in literary history,” Hachette Book Group CEO Michael Pietsch said in a statement, adding that Patterson’s “ability to create constantly compelling stories and indelible characters makes him the perfect partner” for Crichton.
