Ajibola Tolase Wins 2024 Cave Canem Poetry Prize

Nigerian poet Ajibola Tolase has been named the winner of the 2024 Cave Canem Poetry Prize. Tolase will receive $1,000, publication by the University of Pittsburgh Press in Fall 2024 and a feature reading of his book, 2,000 Blacks, in fall 2024 at The New School. 

Tolase is a graduate of the creative writing MFA program at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. His chapbook Koola Lobitos was published in 2021 by Akashic Books as part of the New Generation African Poets Series.

Previous winners of the Cave Canem Poetry Prize, which launched in 1999, include Major Jackson, Tracy K. Smith, and Natasha Tretheway.
