Binc Launches Scholarship for Writer-Booksellers

The Book Industry Charitable Foundation, or Binc, has launched a new scholarship for writer-booksellers. The $10,000 Susan Kamil Scholarship for Emerging Writers, named after the late executive v-p and publisher of Random House who died in 2019, will support booksellers and comic retailers at work on a full-length manuscript, graphic novel, or comic.

The scholarship was established by Charles Duhigg and Liz Alter, with Binc administering. The inaugural panel of judges, which will award the first five scholarships, include Chriscynethia Floyd, v-p and publisher of Our Daily Bread; author Lillian Li; Lindsay Lynch, author and book buyer for Parnassus Books; and author and Binc treasurer Jonathan Putnam.

Any writer working on a full-length manuscript, graphic novel, or comic who is currently employed at a physical book or comic store in the U.S. and has been for a minimum of three months is eligible. The application period will start March 25 and run through April 7, 2024. To learn more about eligibility and apply visit https://bincfoundation.org/susankamil-scholarship/.
