Paradigm to Digitize American Philosophical Society Backlist
The University of Pennsylvania Press has teamed with Paradigm Publishing Services, a division of De Gruyter Brill, to digitize the backlist of its new distribution client, the American Philosophical Society Press, which is the oldest continuously operating scholarly press in North America, founded in 1743. De Gruyter Brill is likewise the oldest scholarly press in Europe, operating in Berlin since 1749.
Some of the APS Press’s oldest published titles, including the first 27 volumes of the Transactions of the American Philosophical Society will be digitized in Paradigm’s Boston office, as will writings from Benjamin Franklin, J. Robert Oppenheimer and anthropologist Margaret Mead, among others. De Gruyter Brill will hold library distribution rights to the content for three years.
“It's truly an honor to build this partnership, uniting North America's oldest scholarly press with a fresh initiative from Europe's most historic scholarly press,” said Paradigm managing director Steve Fallon.
