Viz Media Issues Digital Piracy Statement

After four men were arrested in Japan on suspicion of illegally pirating and distributing manga content from Weekly Shonen Jump, a weekly digital anthology published by Viz Media and WSJ parent company Shuesha, Viz issued a statement on digital piracy.

“Digital piracy is a crime that steals what others have worked so hard to create,” according to the statement. “Viz Media actively supports manga creators and manga fan culture, and is committed to making the highest possible quality content available to a global audience through licensed channels.”

Viz issued the statement after the men were caught uploading a chapter of Viz manga volume to an English-language language website without authorization.
