IPA Opens Nominations for Prix Voltaire
The Geneva-based International Publishers Association (IPA) has launched its call for nominations for the 2026 IPA Prix Voltaire. The honor, originally launched in 2006, celebrates “exemplary courage in upholding the Freedom to Publish and enabling others to exercise their freedom of expression,” per the organization.
Nominees can either have recently published “controversial works amid pressure, threats, intimidation, or harassment,” or may be publishers with a “distinguished record over many years of upholding the freedom to publish and freedom of expression.”
Nominations close on February 22, 2026, after which the nine publishing professionals that comprise the IPA Freedom to Publish Committee will identify a longlist before agreeing on a shortlist and selecting the 2026 laureate. The winner will receive 10,000 Swiss francs (about $12,450 USD).
