Will Schwalbe Announces Retirement
Will Schwalbe, who served as editor-in-chief of Hyperion Books and William Morrow before joining Macmillan in 2014, will retire from his role as publisher-at-large at the publisher effective January 31.
In a note to employees, Macmillan CEO Jon Yaged wrote that Schwalbe will concentrate full-time on writing books, while continuing to work with Macmillan as an advisor. Schwalbe joined Macmillan after the company acquired Cookstr, a cookbook and recipe website he cofounded in 2008.
At Macmillan, Schwalbe held a number of senior roles and acquired and published such bestsellers as Factfullness and The Kingdom of Sand, as well as a list of cookbook authors including Jamie Oliver, Meera Sodha, and Nigella Lawson.
“I’m grateful that Will will continue to share his experience and perspective with Macmillan in an advisory capacity even as he devotes himself to his own writing,” Yaged wrote, “and I want to thank him for the many contributions he has made to our books, our colleagues, and our company.”
