IMLS Opens Grant Programs for Native Libraries

The Institute of Museum and Library Services has opened to proposals for one-to-two-year grant projects led by Native Hawaiian, Native American, and Alaska Native organizations. Grants of $50,000–$150,000 will be awarded through the Native Hawaiian Library Services Grant and Native American Library Services Enhancement Grants, which are earmarked for federally recognized tribal groups.

The notices of funding opportunity assert that the funding is essential because Native libraries “must be able to serve as knowledge and resource centers to benefit their users and the wellness of their communities.” The announcement, timed to IMLS’s “celebration of America’s 250th birthday,” affirms the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion to the nation, despite administrative efforts to root out DEI initiatives. Applications are due April 10.
