Ingram, Pearson Back AI Licensing Company
Ingram Content Group, Pearson, and Wattpad parent company Naver are among a group of backers that have committed $5 million to a seed funding round for Cashmere.io, an AI startup that promises to "bridge premium publishing and generative AI," according to the company.
In a statement, Cashmere.io said it provides what it calls the "plumbing" for publishing companies that want to license AI companies to access to their content, with the aim of offering publishers control over how their data is used. It also said it provides technology for publishers to create internal tools, such as keyword generation and metadata optimization, as well as consumer-facing products.
Cashmere's existing clients include Wiley, Harvard Business Publishing, and Perplexity, the AI search firm which also provided pre-seed funding.
