Judge Named in New Anthropic Suit, Settlement Deadline Pushed

Judge Araceli Martínez-Olguín, who is now presiding over Bartz v. Anthropic lawsuit, has once again extended the deadline for authors and publishers to opt out of or file objections to the $1.5 billion settlement from the AI company. The exact deadline date will be determined at a forthcoming meeting.

Meanwhile, Carreyrou v. Anthropic, the copyright lawsuit filed in December by authors who opted out of the Anthropic settlement, has been assigned Judge Trina Thompson (pictured). This lawsuit targets six tech companies—Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, Meta, xAI, and Perplexity AI—and is seeking $150,000 per infraction of the law.

Judge Thompson is also the judge in the Getty Images v. Stability AI lawsuit.
