AALA Appoints First-Ever Executive Director
The Association of American Literary Agents (AALA) has appointed Daniel O’Brien as its first-ever executive director, effective immediately.
O’Brien, a publishing and nonprofit literary consultant and 2022 PW Star Watch honoree, also serves as executive director of the Independent Publishers Caucus and director of Books Across Borders. He also previously held the role of director of membership and affinity partnerships at the American Booksellers Association.
“We are excited to welcome Daniel to this role, and this appointment represents the next essential step in reinforcing AALA’s foundation and long-term sustainability,” said AALA president Regina Brooks in a statement, adding that bringing on an executive director has been a priority since she took the helm in 2024.
In his new role, O’Brien will oversee AALA’s operations, work closely with the board of directors and membership, and support such initiatives as the People of Publishing Conference.
A previous version of this article mistakenly stated that O’Brien was departing IPC. He is remaining with organization.
