IMLS Promises Funding to HBCUs
The Institute of Museum and Library Services announced plans to distribute discretionary grants totaling $1,725,261 to eight historically Black colleges and universities (HBCU) and the HBCU Library Alliance.
In a statement released February 20, IMLS linked its awards to a White House executive order “to promote excellence and innovation” at HBCUs and said the grants are “preserving American historical and cultural treasures, increasing institutional resilience and emergency preparedness, and enhancing research activities.”
Among the recipients is the HBCU Library Alliance, which will collaborate with the American Institute of Physics on a project that includes a workshop for early- and mid-career librarians from HBCUs.
The IMLS grants represent funds available in the 2025 fiscal year, according to the statement.
