Spotify Launches Audiobook Charts in U.S., U.K.

Spotify has introduced dedicated audiobook charts for listeners in the U.S. and U.K.

The new charts, accessible through Spotify's Audiobook Hub, cover 11 genre categories in the U.S.—romance, mystery and thriller, self-help, sci-fi and fantasy, biography and memoir, business and careers, teen and young adult, religion and spirituality, history, and parenting and relationships—plus an overall top audiobooks chart. In the U.K., the charts cover mystery and thriller, self-help, SFF, and biography and memoir, and also offer a top audiobooks chart.

Asked how the charts were calculated, a representative of Spotify told the Bookseller, "We rank audiobooks based on listening activity on Spotify—same as music and podcasts. Our charts prioritize unique listener behavior, rather than raw volume of streams alone."

The move signals Spotify's intent to position audiobooks alongside music and podcasts as a core content pillar on the platform, with real-time trending data potentially giving publishers and authors a new tool for assessment.
