It turns out that Barricade Books publisher Lyle Stuart will not, after all, be publishing David Irving's controversial Goebbels: Mastermind of the Third Reich in August, as earlier reported (News, Feb. 10). Stuart told PW that the deal fell apart because he wanted to write an introduction to the book "to put it in perspective," as he did with The Turner Diaries. Disagreements over the handling of this, and the passing of a March 15 deadline to assure the August pub date, made him drop the project, Stuart said. After our earlier report, Irving contacted PW to deny any deal. "I have no intention of hawking my Goebbels biography around," he said. "I prefer not to publish it at all in the U.S. than to float downriver to a publisher like Barricade's Lyle Stuart."
