Justice for James
Daisy Maryles, with Dick Donahue -- 12/8/97
Here are the clues: it was Baroness James in the drawing room with a letter-opener. To find out more, P.D. James fans will be reading the new Adam Dalgliesh "page-turner" (opines PW), A Certain Justice. Knopf has launched the book with a 175,000-copy first printing. For the first time, a James title will be available simultaneously on audio, from Random, but since the author d sn't like her work to be abridged, look for an unabridged version. James will begin a 12-city tour on January 10, but for fans who can't wait that long, she has signed bookplates that are being made available to stores. Knopf is also planning on-line chats with James during her U.S. stay.
