U.S. Bookings Up At London Fair
-- 12/8/97
The London International Book Fair, which takes place next year from March 22-24, has already seen a 25% increase in registered North American exhibitors over 1997 levels, and the figure is expected to be even higher by fair time.
LIBF's sales manager Patrick McLaughlin also reported that the PW-sponsored International Rights Centre will be expanded to occupy the entire gallery of Olympia's National Hall, and will accommodate 250 tables, nearly doubling its space. It's possible the Centre may open a day before the fair itself to allow members to fit in extra appointments. A total of 16 U.S. and Canadian members have already taken tables, an increase of seven over last year.

Altogether, with nearly four months still to go, LIBF has already sold more space than was taken last year, with 63 new companies buying booths; U.S. and Canadian participation is currently at 53 exhibitors, compared to 45 in 1997. International space overall has increased by 18% so far, with new exhibitors from Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, China, Russia and Japan.

Publishers Weekly is offering a special travel and accommodation package for the fair, in connection with the LIBF organizers, with return flights from a number of U.S. cities from March 18- 24 at a rate 15% off normal fares. Accommodation has been arranged at the five-star, all-suites Conrad International Hotel at Chelsea Harbour, for a four-night stay at £165 a night for a double, breakfast included. Further details will be announced early next year.
