Club Web
Calvin Reid -- 1/26/98
A fluctuating group of web workers, online marketers and the like from most of the bigger New York City publishers have launched a series of monthly meetings to ponder online marketing and provide a convenient gathering point for Web firms eager to meet and greet book publishers. The group includes Tom Turvey, formerly at HarperCollins and now with B&N; Lisa Mandel at S&S; Amy Cook from Random House; and many more. Jon Gutenberg, v-p, new media at BDD, emphasized to PW that the group is "very informal. We don't even have a name," but he likened their efforts to those of the Publishers Marketing Association. The group has met once at BDD. The literary web magazine Salon will visit the next meeting, scheduled for January 27. "If we just get to know our counterparts, it will be a success," said Guttenberg. "We'll see if it grows into something more." Interested parties can contact BDD's online marketing manager, Larry Weisseman, at weissmal@bdd.com.
