Authors Up Front At BookExpo
-- 2/9/98
This year, BookExpo America will sport an "expanded spectrum of author platforms," according to Courtney Muller, BEA's industry vice-president. The slew of new author participation forums on the four-day conference agenda include the Opening Night Welcome Reception (a cocktail hour sponsored by Farrar, Straus &Giroux, featuring author Tom Wolfe) on Friday, May 29; the Meet the Writers Luncheon on Monday, June 1, which will feature 30-50 well-known authors; and the reinstatement of the traditional Author Breakfasts, to be held daily.
Speakers at the Children's Book and Author Breakfast on Saturday, May 30, will be Ed, Michael and Rebecca Emberly, authors of Three: An Emberly Family Scrapbook/i> (Little, Brown); Newbery Honor Medal winner Julius Lester, author of Black Cowboys/Wild Horse and From Slave Ship to Freedom Road (Dial Books for Young Readers); and David Shannon, author of No David (Blue Sky Press). On Sunday, May 31, attendees can breakfast with George Stephanopoulos, Dava Sobel and Alice Walker; and on Monday, June 1, with Barry Lopez, Anna Quindlen, Adrienne Rich and Stephen Jay Gould.
