Buffy, the Vampire Slayer, Beware
Daisy Maryles -- 3/23/98
Just when you thought it was safe to go out at night (with Lestat finished off in Memnoch the Devil), Anne Rice begins a whole new series of novels featuring those pain-in-the-neck creatures of the night, vampires. And her fans were quick to bite, as Pandora jumped to the #4 spot in its first week out, even edging John Grisham out of the #1 slot at Barnes &Noble and Waldenbooks (the latter printed up rub-on Pandora tattoos for its customers). Knopf augmented its 450,000 copies with two more print runs, bringing the total to 498,000. National media, which begins today, includes The Today Show and Rosie O'Donnell; Charlie Rose on March 24; This Evening with Judith Regan on Fox New Channel on March 28-29; plus several drive-time radio tours.
