Still In There Kicking
-- 8/24/98
In his 27 years as a head football coach (including 11 spectacular years leading Notre Dame's Fighting Irish), Lou Holtz and his teams racked up hundreds of wins. Now the gridiron great turned motivational speaker has taken his expertise and winning attitude to another playing field -- less muddy but equally competitive. Making its second appearance this week is Holtz's Winning Every Day: The Game Plan for Success, which was published by HarperBusiness on August 1 with a first printing of 80,000 (after two trips back to press: 100,000). While on his intense seven-city tour, Holtz displayed endurance and resilience worthy of any gridiron encounter, often conducting 10 to 15 interviews per market within a single 24-hour period. Still, he realized that promoting a book might differ somewhat from explaining game-day strategies to the sports media, so he sought advice from his publisher. Obviously, coaching the coach has paid off handsomely.
