More On Princess Di
-- 8/24/98
Nearly one year after the death of Princess Diana, the public's fascination with her tragic demise seems as intense as ever. Capturing the #2 spot on this week's nonfiction list less than two weeks after its pub date is Morrow's The Day Diana Died. Author Christopher Andersen's 19 previous books, which have been translated into more than 20 languages worldwide, include such bestsellers as Jack and Jackie: Portrait of an American Marriage and Jackie After Jack. The former senior editor at People will be making a host of media appearances, including Today, Dateline NBC, The Late, Late Show with Tom Snyder, CNN Special Report, Leeza and Hard Copy. Features have appeared in USA Today and the Washington Post; two stories went over the Associated Press newswire, and Liz Smith ran an item last week in her nationally syndicated column. After three trips back to press, Morrow's initial print figure of 140,000 is up to 350,000. Showing considerable sales strength at the national chains is another title on the late Princess of Wales -- Diana: Portrait of a Princess is a collection of more than 500 photographs, 75% of which have never been published, by Jayne Fincher, the only female royal photographer working with the approval and full cooperation of Buckingham Palace. First printing of the Simon &Schuster title, which includes text by Fincher and British journalist Judy Wade, was 150,000.
