This week's nonfiction newcomer, If Life is a Game, These Are the Rules: Ten Rules for Being Human as introduced in Chicken Soup for the Soul is yet another tome that got Oprahized. On September 15, Oprah devoted a full hour to author Cherie Carter-Scott, letting her interact with the audience, seminar-style. By 10 pm on the 15th (which was also the book's on-sale date) Ten Rules was number one on Amazon.com's bestseller list. The rules first appeared in Health Communications' Chicken Soup for the Soul, attributed to anonymous, but the author had been distributing these rules, which she made up at her seminars, for more than 20 years. (Carter-Scott is a corporate trainer and management consultant who lectures on self-esteem, communication and leadership skills.) Within days of the Oprah appearance, Broadway Books' first printing of 43,500 copies shot to 165,000. Carter-Scott will be doing a 13-city tour through November, making appearances at bookstores, The Learning Annex, Unity churches and more.
