Borders Group Inc. has reached beyond the book world and named Greg Josefowicz as its new president and CEO. Josefowicz, who will also become a member of the board, had been president of Jewel-Osco, a division of Albertson's. He succeeds Robert DiRomualdo, who had served as interim president and CEO following the abrupt departure of Phil Pfeffer in April (News, April 26). DiRomualdo will continue as Borders chairman.

DiRomualdo described Josefowicz, who started at Borders November 15, as "a seasoned retailer" whose strengths include marketing, merchandising, logistics, operations "and above all human resources." Josefowicz's experience in database management and e-commerce should also prove useful in helping strengthen Borders.com.

This is not the first time Borders has picked someone from outside bookselling to head the company; DiRomualdo had been the president and CEO of Hickory Farms before joining Borders in 1988.
