Citing service and redundancy, Spring Arbor has announced it will close its distribution center in Newport, Tenn., and consolidate stock with Ingram Book Group's LaVergne facility. The Newport warehouse will make its final shipments by December.

The move came about because the two facilities are less than 200 miles from each other. The consolidation will cut the cost of a separate facility and make use of space in the LaVergne warehouse. It will also allow Ingram to better track merchandise. In a release, Spring Arbor said that "the 144 employees at the Newport warehouse are being offered positions at other Spring Arbor and Ingram Book Group facilities." No other warehouse closings are currently planned.
