Grammy Nominees Announced

The nominations for the 43rd Annual Grammy Awards were announced earlier this month ,and the winners will be named during the Grammy Awards telecast on February 21. Eligible recordings were released between Oct. 1, 1999, and Sept. 30, 2000. The nominees in the categories of most interest to booksellers:

For Best Spoken Word Album: The Complete Shakespeare Sonnets by various artists, including Kathleen Turner, Patrick Stewart and Al Pacino (Airplay); Married to Laughter: A Love Story Featuring Anne Meara by Jerry Stiller, performed by the author (BDD Audio); The Measure of a Man by Sidney Poitier, performed by the author (Harper Audio); On the Road by Jack Kerouac, performed by Matt Dillon (Caedmon); and Shopgirl by Steve Martin, performed by the author (Simon & Schuster Audio).

For Best Spoken Comedy Album: Big Funny by Jeff Foxworthy (DreamWorks Nashville); Braindroppings by George Carlin (HighBridge Audio); I Rant, Therefore I Am by Dennis Miller (BDD Audio); The Original Kings of Comedy by Steve Harvey, D.L. Hughley, Cedric the Entertainer and Bernie Mac (Universal Records); and The Prisoner of Second Avenue by Richard Dreyfus and Marsha Mason (L.A. Theatre Works).

For Best Spoken Word Album for Children: The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey by Susan Wojciechowski, performed by James Earl Jones (Candlewick); Dinosongs: P ms to Celebrate a T. Rex Named Sue by K.M. Crotty, performed by Susan Sarandon (Scholastic); Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling, performed by Jim Dale (Listening Library); The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain, performed by Paul Newman (Simon & Schuster Audio); and The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg, performed by Liam Neeson (Houghton Mifflin).
