After a weak January, sales slowed even more in February in the adult hardcover segment, dropping 46.9%, according to monthly estimates from the AAP. Sales in the trade paperback segment fell 12.9% in the month. Although returns were higher in February 2000, the increase was not that dramatic, 17.6% for hardcover and 3.8% for trade paperback. Returns were exceptionally high in the children's hardcover and paperback segments, rising 84.7% and 105.8%, respectively, but the hardcover category managed to eke out a 1.8% increase in the month, while paperback sales were up 6.3%. The book club segment was the strongest in the month, with sales ahead 9.8%.
