Kara Welsh has been appointed vice-president and publisher of New American Library. She was vice-president, deputy publisher, at Pocket Books. At NAL, she will report to Leslie Gelbman, president of mass market paperbacks.

Welsh began her publishing career in the publicity department of Pocket. After working at Warner Books, she returned to Pocket, where she was named v-p, associate publisher, and in 1999 became deputy publisher. At Pocket, Welsh worked with such authors as Jude Deveraux, Stephen King and Mary Higgins Clark, and helped launch MTV Books, VH-1 Books and the Star Trek imprint.
